The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) a premier institution dedicated to excellence in science, technology, and innovation. The University is located in the industrial city of Lae, the second largest city in Papua New Guinea. The University is the only technological university in the Pacific. SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURE
Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor in Animal Breeding
This position seeks for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor in animal breeding and management. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and outreach in animal breeding, genetics and livestock management systems, with a strong focus on improving productivity and sustainability in tropical and smallholder farming systems. This is a key leadership position, so the candidate must also be able to perform effectively as a team leader, both at the Department (e.g., mentoring of junior staff) and, when required, University level (including the possibility of serving as Head of Department if requested by Senior Management).
Primary Responsibilities
- Delivering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in animal breeding, genetics, and livestock management;
- conduct applied and innovative research in animal improvement and production systems;
- supervise students research projects and postgraduate programs;
- develop and lead funded research and extension programs;
- engage with industry stakeholders, farmers and government agencies.
Qualification & Experience
The ideal candidate should possess:
- A PhD in Animal Breeding and management;
- Proven teaching experience at university level; strong research and publication record in impact scientific literature.
- Experience in tropical livestock systems and smallholder farming, knowledge of genetic improvement programs and reproductive technologies,
- strong extension and farmer training background, and ability to attract research funding and build partnerships are required.
Conditions of Service
Associate Professor
- Base Salary Ranger: K78, 441- K95, 873 per annum.
- DMA Range: K31, 296 – K55, 272 (DMA = Domestic Market Allowance)
- IMA Range: K96, 481- K123, 870 (IMA = International Market Allowance)
Senior Lecturer
- Base Salary Ranger: K66, 060 – K80, 740 per annum.
- DMA Range: K22, 683 – K40, 199 (DMA = Domestic Market Allowance)
- IMA Range: K88, 058 – K107, 159 (IMA = International Market Allowance)
(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
