Assistant Accountant – Budget
THE PAPUA NEW GUINEA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join the Bursary Department as an Assistant Accountant – Budget. Reporting to the Bursar, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing effective and efficient professional support within the Bursary, working closely with the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Sections. The successful candidate will also liaise directly with Heads of Academic and Non-Academic Departments to formulate annual departmental budget data.
Primary Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- To coordinate with all departments (Academic & Non-Academic) in collecting budget data and compile the annual budget of the University.
- Key in the annual budget into IMFS (Integrated Financial Management System)
- Collect data from each academic department and formulate the EFTS for internal budget allocation for the academic departments.
- Compile the internal budget allocation for the non-academic departments
- Process monthly budget variance reports and advise the respective departments of their standing allocation balance.
- Prepare and submit the quarterly budget Review to DoF and DoT.
- Prepare quarterly variance reports for PIP funding.
- To assist in other related tasks/duties as and when directed by the Bursar
- To carry out other departmental and institutional tasks as and when directed by the Bursar and Deputy Bursar.
- Carry out duties of Fixed Asset Management in processing of ARD claims.
- In charge of Expense and Income analysis for the academic programs and reports to PVC-Academic
- Reviewing of General Ledger postings to ensure postings are accurately encoded and done.
- Also assist on ad hoc basis clearing accounts reconciliation
Qualification & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Banking and Business Management, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3–5 years’ hands-on experience in a similar role.

- Ability to work extended hours and travel at short notice, as required.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.

Conditions of Service
Base Salary:
- Assistant Accountant I K40,781.00 – K49,843.00 plus DMA of K1,800 per annum
- Assistant Accountant II K46,556.00 – K56,902.00 plus DMA of K6,677.00 per annum
(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
