Applications are sought from suitably qualified Papua New Guineans to fill the following positions within the Faculty of Natural Resources, School of Forestry of the University.
School of Forestry
The School is spread over PNGUoT’s three campuses: Taraka main campus in Lae; Bulolo campus located 3 hours drive from the main campus and surrounded by PNG’s largest Araucaria and pine plantations and PNG’s largest downstream processor of timber operated by the PNG Forest Products Limited; and the Bumbu campus (formerly TFTC), which is 20 minutes’ drive from the main campus. The School offers a 4- year BSc Degree in Forestry at the main Taraka campus; 4- year Bachelor’s Degree in Forest Resource Management at the Bulolo campus; and a 2- year Diploma in Wood Processing and Manufacturing at the Bumbu campus.
Lecturer of Forest Biology & Wildlife Management (Internal Advertisement)
The Lecturer of Forest & Wildlife Management will play a pivotal role in the delivery and continuous development of the Bachelor of Science in Forestry program at Papua New Guinea University of Technology. The program exists to provide high quality education and training in Forest Science, equipping graduates with skills needed to transform the Forestry Sector in PNG and beyond.
Primary Responsibilities
About the Role
The Lecturer in Forest Biology & Wildlife Management will play a key role in delivering high-quality teaching, research, and professional engagement within the School of Forestry at Papua New Guinea University of Technology. The position contributes to developing future forestry and conservation professionals equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to address contemporary challenges in forest ecosystems, biodiversity conservation, wildlife management, and sustainable natural resource development in Papua New Guinea and beyond.
The appointee will be expected to;
- Coordinate at least two of the subjects mentioned above in a semester
- Deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, and tutorials
- Participate in curriculum development initiatives
- Contribute to initiatives that prepare graduates for the digital economy
- Engage in independent and collaborative research, contributing to the school’s research outputs.
- Perform assigned duties in accordance with institutional policies
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Forest Biology, Wildlife Management, and related disciplines, including Plant and Animal Biology, Forest Botany, and Wildlife Habitat and Management.
- Develop, review, and update course materials to ensure academic quality, relevance, and alignment with industry and research needs.
- Utilize learning management systems (e.g., Moodle, Google Classroom) to support blended, flexible, and distance learning delivery.
- Supervise student projects, fieldwork, dissertations, and research activities, ensuring strong academic mentoring and guidance.
- Conduct and publish high-quality research in Forest Science, Biological Sciences, Wildlife Management, or related fields.
- Develop nationally and internationally recognized research programs, collaborations, and secure external research funding through competitive grant applications.
- Promote evidence-based approaches and innovation in forestry, conservation biology, and wildlife management.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with government agencies, industry stakeholders, research institutions, and community groups.
- Undertake outreach and extension activities that promote sustainable forestry and wildlife management practices.
- Contribute to strategic planning, curriculum development, program review, accreditation, and continuous improvement of the School of Forestry.
- Participate in academic committees, student recruitment, orientation, advising, and retention initiatives.
- Expand national and international academic and research networks, and promote the School’s visibility through scholarly and professional engagement.
- Apply expertise in experimental design, biostatistics (parametric and non-parametric methods), and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), while maintaining accurate academic records and performing other duties as assigned.
Qualification & Experience
- Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or PhD Degree in Forest Science, Biological Sciences, or a related field from a recognized university.
- Exceptional academic leadership.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in a classroom-related environment or related industry.
- Prior experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Animal Biology, Plant Biology, Forest Botany and Wildlife Management
- Familiarity with teaching in distance mode and with using learning management systems such as Google Classroom or Moodle will be an added advantage.

Conditions of Service
- Base Salary: Lecturer I/II PGK47,060 – PGK67,702 per annum
- Domestic Market Allowance: PGK13,639 – PGK31,585 per annum
(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
