Student Support & Facilities Centre (SS&FC)
The Students Support & Facilities Centre (SS&FC) is located within the Female Halls of Residence and accommodates the following Offices:
Office of the Deputy Registrar
SS&FC is headed by the Deputy Registrar or Director (Students Services) and oversees all functions of the Section.
Office of the Dean of Students
The Dean of Students generally administers all student matters from Accommodation, Meals, Counselling and most importantly Discipline.
Office of the Matron (Female Students)
The Matron administers and manages the Female Halls of Residence. The Matron is assisted by an Assistant Matron and takes care of all Female students’ accommodation queries.
Office of the Warden of Students (Male Students)
The Warden of Students administers and manages the Male Halls of Residence. The Warden is assisted by an Assistant Warden and takes care of Male students accommodation queries. The Office also oversees and manages the Male Janitors for the Male Halls of Residence.
Office of the Student Counsellor & Chaplaincy Services
The Student Counsellor and the Chaplains from different denominations provides approachable and professional counselling services to students (including staff).
The primary focus is to provide counselling to help students (and staff) deal with personal and/or adjustment to issues that may interfere with their ability to progress academically and/or professionally to their fullest potential.
The Office maintains strict confidentiality and other ethical principles at all times.
Office of SRC & Sports
The Office manages and supports the Students Representative Council (SRC) with its administrative functions. It also organizes Sports and other Recreational activities (academic / social) for the University (students / staff).
Accommodation
The University Campus has 48 Halls of Residence housing 1,686 under graduate students (Male and Female) and 2 Post Graduate Halls of Residence housing 82 students.
The Male Halls of Residence (44 dormitories) are all single rooms with exception to 100 Men Dorm which has shared rooms and accommodates all AES students. The total bedspace is 1186. The Female Halls of Residence (04 dormitories) are most shared rooms with only 20 single rooms for senior students. Total bedspace is 500.
Students are allocated rooms according to Year of study by Academic Departments. Priority is given the PNG Government Sponsored (TESAS) students, Corporate Sponsored students and International students.
All eligible resident students must sign a Tenancy Agreement Form before gaining access into a room.
Self-Sponsored students are required to complete a Room Application Form to be considered depending on availability of bed-spaces (rooms).
The Post Graduate Halls of Residence accommodates for 41 students in the Male Dormitory (Emara Ibu) and 41 students in the Female Dormitory (Lawi Si Andu).
Meals
Meals are served at the Students Mess located at the Union Complex and is being prepared by a contracted Catering Company. All Residential students are issued a Tenancy Agreement Form and registered with the Catering Company for access into the Students Mess.
Counselling & Chaplaincy Services
The Office provides professional counselling service to students maintains Confidentiality on all matters. The primary focus is to help students deal with personal and/or adjustment issues that may interfere with their ability to progress academically and/or professionally to their fullest potential.
Counselling is provided for a wide range of issues including those that are academic (study-related) and those of a personal or social nature. These may include personal feelings, relationship issues, coping with stress and anxiety, adjusting to university life, family conflict, academic problems and other personal issues.
Sports
The Sports Office organizes recreational and sporting activities for students in partnerships with the SRC and the Academic Departments. Sports played on campus are mostly traditional like Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Netball, Rugby Union, Rugby League & Rugby Touch. Unitech is a member of PNG University Sports Association and also the International University Sports Federation (FISU – Oceania).
Discipline
The Office of the Dean of Students deals with all Students Disciplinary matters on campus. All registered students are bound by University Student Rules. Students who breach Rules Governing Students Behaviour on Campus are referred to the Dean of Students for counselling and later to the University Students Disciplinary Committee further disciplinary action. All students (resident / non-resident) must observe and adhere to University Students Rules to avoid being penalised.
