The Papua New Guinea University of Technology is seeking a dedicated and skilled Technical Services Librarian to join our dynamic team in the Knowledge Management Services of the Matheson Library.

Technical Services Librarian (Re-advertise)
This critical role will involve overseeing and supervising various library functions in cataloguing, acquisitions, collection development, and digitization. The successful candidate will also play a key role in maintaining our integrated library systems, ensuring high-quality technical services and providing support for library operations.

Primary Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage key library functions including cataloguing, acquisitions, collection development, bindery, e-resources and preservation.
  • Oversee and maintain the library’s metadata management, ensuring continuous development and maintenance.
  • Supervise, train, and plan the work of the section’s staff, ensuring efficient service delivery.
  • Coordinate and evaluate library projects and systems, resolving issues where necessary.
  • Supervise the technical processes of materials for access and oversee annual inventory processes.
  • Provide technical service assistance to the branch libraries.
  • Contribute to library management meetings and discussions, ensuring strategic alignment with university goals.
  • Stay informed on trends and developments in the library field, implementing best practices in cataloguing and technical services.
  • Manage and integrate digital resources including e-books, databases, and digital archives.
  • Lead and manage projects such as system migrations, cataloguing initiatives, and digitization efforts.
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective technical services operations.
  • Provide technical service reports to the library management
  • Ensure current cataloging standards and practices are maintained
  • Supervise weekend and shift duties

Qualification & Experience

  • Educational Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library Science or a postgraduate qualification in a related field, with 2-4 years of relevant technical library training.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5-10 years working in technical service of academic and research libraries, with proven knowledge of relevant technologies.
  • Skills: Exceptional leadership, facilitation, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and handle complex technical tasks.

Conditions of Service

  • Base Salary: Senior Librarian PGK53,147 – PGK64,958 per annum
  • Domestic Market Allowance: PGK8,681 – PGK12,687 per annum

(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
