Senior Technical Officer – Mining
PAPUA NEW GUINEA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) is located in the industrial hub of Lae city, the second largest city in Papua New Guinea. The city of Lae connects to all parts of PNG through roads, sea and air. The PNGUoT has a main campus and three amalgamated colleges: the Bulolo Forestry College, the Timber and Forestry Training College, and the Lae Unitech Nursing School. These colleges became part of PNGUoT, expanding its academic programs to include forestry and nursing.
The main campus has 14 Academic Schools/Departments including the Department of Open and Distance Learning (DODL). The PNGUoT offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Built Environment, Engineering, Humanities and Natural Resources. The university also has an Information Technology Services Department and a Library.
School of Mining Engineering
The School of Mining Engineering is one of the four Engineering Schools at the PNG University of Technology and is very popular amongst prospective students both nationally and internationally, particularly the Pacific Island nations of Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. The School offers Bachelor of Mining Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Mineral Process Engineering (Honours) with Geology servicing both programs. The School also has a 2-year Master by Research programs – Master of Philosophy in Mining and Master of Philosophy in Mineral Processing.
Vacancies now exist in the School of Mining Engineering, most notably within its Technical Section. Applicants must be highly qualified and dedicated individuals who shall promote the School and the University as the provider of quality and skilled professionals. The appointees will report to the Head of School through the Laboratory Manager for weekly duties and assist in the operation and administration of the School where necessary. Apart from their technical duties, they will assist and provide guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate students regarding laboratory work. They will also pursue research and appropriate consulting activities with academic staff in order to maintain high professional standards within the discipline.

Qualification & Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Mining or Mineral Processing from a recognized university is required for each specified position. A Diploma from a recognized Technical Institute with 5 years relevant work experience will also be considered to meet or partially fulfil the requirements of the job. The successful candidate is required to take leadership role in his/her area of specialization as well as assist in conducting research both at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
The candidate should also possess:
• Strong practical knowledge in Geology, Mining and Mineral Processing-related project work.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Commitment to student development, academic integrity and institutional values.
Conditions of Service
Senior Technical Officer I: Salary Range: PGK35,752 – PGK43, 695 per annum
Domestic Market Allowance: PGK1,200 per annumSenior Technical Officer II: Salary Range: PGK40, 781 – PGK49,843 per annum
Domestic Market Allowance: PGK1,800
