Bulolo University -Assistant Accountant

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Accountant at the Bulolo University College within the PNG University of Technology.

The successful candidate will work closely and report to the PNGUOT Bursary, ensuring financial accuracy and operational efficiency.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee finance and accounting functions of the BU operations.
  • Check and verify financial transactions and maintain the books accurately 
  • Ensure an effective counter service is maintained and students/customers are attended to satisfactorily
  • Perform banking duties as required.
  • Reconcile the cash transactions and carryout spot checks on petty cashes
  • Ensure effective financial service for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintaining the Accounts Receivables and ensure the recovery from the Debtors are within due date
  • Maintaining and Control over Accounts Payables and ensure Suppliers Accounts are reconciled & pay in time
  • Maintaining the Fixed Assets Register and conduct periodical inspection of the assets
  • Carry out quarterly stock take and report on the variances
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and reports are submitted monthly
  • Reconcile the General Ledger Accounts including the related party accounts
  • Cooperate with the External Auditors and to provide the requested information/reports/schedule for audits
  • Compliance with the Public Financial Act, Procurement Act, IRC Rules and University Policies 
  • Maintain professional communication with clients and departments through email, phone, and official correspondence.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for BU as required.
  • Disseminate financial statements and certify acquittals.
  • Support institutional tasks and directives from the Bursar and Deputy Bursar as needed.

Perform any other duties as delegated by the superiors/bursar

Qualification & Experience

The successful candidate must have the following requirements to be considered: 

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Management from a recognized institution.
  • 3-5 years of professional Accounting Experience.
  • He/she should be mature and have good negotiation, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills. 
  • Can be able to work under pressure and travel at short notice on University requirements.

Note: This position requires someone who can be able to work long hours and sometimes weekends as well as when required.

Conditions of Service

  • Assistant Accountant I/II: K40,781.00 – K56,902.00 per annum

  • Domestic Market Allowance: K1,500.00 – K1,800.00 per annum

(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
