The Papua New Guinea University of Technology is seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Librarian for Reader Services to enhance the user experience and provide exceptional support and services to library patrons.

Primary Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide reference services, including referencing and research skills
  • Develop and deliver instructional programs to improve patrons’ research and information literacy skills.
  • Plan, evaluate and ensure implementation of programs to promote reading, literacy, and community engagement.
  • Manage, mentor, and train reader services staff, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Develop policies and procedures related to reader services to ensure quality service delivery, including services to Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI).
  • Continuously assess user experience by conducting user surveys and addressing feedback for improvements.
  • Build partnerships with community organizations, educational institutions, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure efficient accessibility of all library resources and services.
  • Plan and develop learning spaces for users
  • Promote library technology to enhance user access and experience.
  • Analyze data on library usage and user satisfaction for service improvement and report to the library management.
  • Develop marketing strategies to promote library services and resources.
  • Manage conflicts and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for all patrons.
  • Stay informed on current trends and best practices in librarianship and reader services.
  • Ensure smooth operation of shift work duties
  • Manage the security of library resources.

Qualification & Experience

  • Master’s qualification in Librarianship or a related field.
  • At least 5-7 years of professional experience in a library setting, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Proven experience in providing reference and research assistance to a diverse range of patrons.
  • Experience in developing and delivering information literacy and instructional programs.

Conditions of Service

  • Base Salary: Senior Librarian PGK53,147 – PGK64,958 per annum
  • Domestic Market Allowance: PGK8,681 – PGK12,687 per annum

(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
