Primary Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate instruction in computer science subjects such as: Software Engineering, Data Structures & Algorithms, Operating Systems, Database Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Machine Learning, Data Science, and related emerging fields. Integrate contemporary tools and methodologies including cloud platforms, large language models, and ethical AI frameworks to enhance contextual learning.
• Supervise student research projects, including honors and postgraduate theses
• Undertake research and contribute to the school’s publication and grant portfolio
• Participate in curriculum development and academic quality assurance
• Mentor junior academic staff and contribute to university committees
• Foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative teaching approaches

Qualification & Experience

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cybersecurity, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at tertiary level
  • Record of scholarly publications or evidence of research potential
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for academic excellence and technological advancement

Desired Skills & Attributes:

  • Proficiency in modern programming languages, development frameworks, and cloud-based platforms (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Git, AWS, or equivalent).
  •  Strong grasp of emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, Data Science, and ethical considerations in technology.
  • Ability to translate advanced technologies into accessible, real-world applications that resonate with PNG’s socioeconomic context.
  • Ability to inspire innovation, critical thinking, and autonomy among students, with emphasis on contextual problem-solving.
  • Experience in multicultural, multidisciplinary academic environments, with a collaborative mindset and commitment to inclusive education

Conditions of Service

  • Base Salary – Lecturer I/II: : PGK47,060 – PGK67,702 per annum
  • Domestic Market Allowance (DMA): PGK13,693 – PGK 31585 per annum

(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
