Financial Accountant
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following position within the University:
DEPARTMENT OF OPEN AND DISTANCE LEARNING (DODL) – Financial Accountant
The successful candidate will be responsible for the production of the department’s financial reports and fulfilling other obligations such as tax and statutory reporting
Primary Responsibilities
- Ensures that regular income and expenditure reports are provided on a timely basis to the HOD and Bursar for quarterly, half yearly and annual reports.
- Complies with tax filing requirements by studying regulations; adhering to requirements; advising management on required actions; calculating quarterly estimated tax payments; assembling data for quarterly and annual tax filings.
- Ensures that financial records comply with University policies and accounting principles.
- Respond to financial inquiries by gathering, analyzing, summarizing, and interpreting data.
- Provide financial advice by studying operational issues; applying financial principles and practices and developing recommendations.
- Prepare special reports by studying variances; preparing budgets; developing forecasts.
- Updates job knowledge by keeping current with financial regulations and accepted practices; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and participating in professional organizations.
- Accomplish finance and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
- Supervise and monitor daily cash flow and Bank Balances
- Maintain accurate accounting records for future references.
- Perform any other duties as assigned or delegated by the Head of Department
Qualification & Experience
The successful candidate should:
- Have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting with CPA membership status or equivalent from a recognized institution
- Have a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Experienced in a Chartered Accounting firm can be advantageous
- Ability to perform data and statistical analysis to spot trends and anomalies
- Advanced computer software skills, including Excel and other financial software and tools for reporting and analysis purposes
- Be honest, dependable, meticulous and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Cooperative, friendly manners, able to develop and maintain good relationship with staff and clients at all levels
- Have knowledge of data analysis, financial risk management and strong business acumen
Conditions of Service
Financial Accountant PGK53, 147.00 – PGK64, 958.00 per annum
Domestic Market Allowance (DMA) K8,681.00 – K12, 687 .00 per annum
(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
