INTERNAL AUDIT UNIT, VICE CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE
Internal Auditor
The incumbent will report directly to the Vice Chancellor and the Internal Audit Committee. The successful candidate is responsible for planning, executing and reporting on operational, financial and regulatory compliance related audits/reviews of all departments, sections, affiliated colleges and subsidiaries of the University operations by performing the following:
Primary Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining the Third Line of Defence by providing independent assurance or audit programs for system audits to identify process gaps that pose risk to the cost centres and subsidiaries of the University either regulatory/financial or reputational in nature,
- Perform and control the full audit cycle including risk management and control management over operational effectiveness, financial reliability and compliance with all applicable directives and policies,
- Determine internal audit scope and develop annual audit work plan and programs,
- Objectively assess the University’s risks and efficacy of its risk management efforts
- Ensure that all cost centres and subsidiaries are complying with the policies and procedures of the University
- Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls of the University and make recommendations on how to improve,
- Supervision and mentoring of the Internal Audit Team
- Perform investigative audit on fraud and corruption
- Prepare timely and accurate audit reports and recommendations and maintain open communication with Senior Executive Management and Audit Committee,
- Conduct follow up audits to monitor management interventions,
- Act as an objective source of independent body to advise on best practice in ensuring validity, legality and goals are achieved,
- Identify loopholes and recommend risk aversion measures and cost savings,
- Provide leadership, delegation and coaching, promote teamwork and strive for excellence at the workplace.
- Knowledge in Public Financial Management Act, National Procurement Act and Government Policies.
- Performing other duties as directed by the Vice Chancellor or the Internal Audit Committee including providing timely reports of finance and operational activities.
Qualification & Experience
The successful candidate should have a first degree in Business/Accounting with a minimum of 5 years of auditing experience in public practice or large commercial organizations. S/he should be CPA qualified and have the ability to apply Accounting & Auditing standards and modern auditing techniques and be familiar with the latest accounting packages.
S/he should be conversant with all MS Office applications including Excel, have good communication skills, be diligent, meticulous, impartial and display a high level of integrity at all times.
Note: This position requires someone who can work long hours and sometimes weekends as well as when required.
Conditions of Service
- Base Salary: SAR I – Salary K53,147 – K654,958
- Base Salary: SAR II – Salary K60,649 – K74,126 plus
- Domestic Market Allowance: SAR I – K8,681 – 12,268 per annum
- Domestic Market Allowance: SAR II K10,682 – K16,026 per annum
(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
