Achievements
Since its establishment in 1962, the Papua New Guinea Forestry College (now Bulolo Campus) has been a cornerstone of forestry education in the country. Initially offering short courses for field-trained officers, it expanded to include a two-year Higher Certificate program in 1963. In 1964, the government approved a three-year Diploma in Forestry program, emphasizing botanical collection, timber assessment, harvesting, plantation establishment, and conservation. The college was integrated into the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) in 1994, enriching its curriculum with science driven and sustainability-focused education. In 2016, the Stand Alone Diploma was started, reviving the Forestry Diploma program that was established in 1964 reflecting the institution’s commitment to evolving forestry education. In 2023 the Bachelor in Forest Resource Management (BFRM) degree program was initiated which replaced the Stand Alone Diploma program focusing on Sustainable Forest Landscape Management, aligning with global perspectives of resource and environmental management standards and PNG’s Vision 2050.
