The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) is in the industrial city of Lae, the second largest city in Papua New Guinea. The city of Lae has an airport with flights to any location in PNG. The University is the only technological university in the Pacific. It has a main campus and three amalgamated colleges. The main campus has 14 academic schools under 6 faculties including a Department of Open and Distance Learning (DODL). It offers undergraduate and graduate programs in engineering, natural and applied sciences, built environment, language, and business. The university has an Information Technology Services department and a Library.

School of Applied Sciences
The School of Applied Sciences is one of the founding academic units of the University, originally established in 1974 as the Department of Chemical Technology. It currently offers two four-year undergraduate programs Bachelor of Science in Applied Chemistry and Bachelor of Science in Food Technology and provides foundational chemistry instruction to other disciplines. The school also offers MPhil and PhD research degrees, and is in the process of developing a Master of Science program.
The school is equipped with modern facilities, including chemical and microbiology laboratories, a chemical instrumentation lab, a food analysis lab, and a Food Processing Pilot Plant. These support both teaching and research in food chemistry, food engineering, and technology. The school maintains strong collaborative ties with government agencies and industries in the food, agriculture, chemical, and mining sectors.
About the Role
Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer in Food Engineering
The University invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer in Food Engineering within the School of Applied Science, at the PNG University of Technology.
This is a senior academic position, the successful candidate must be prepared to take on leadership responsibilities within the school, including mentoring junior staff and potentially serving as Head of School, if requested by Senior Management.
Primary Responsibilities
The successful candidate is required to:
- The candidate must demonstrate leadership in their area of specialization
- Capable of teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Must be able to actively engage in research
- Must have the capacity to provide supervision to MPhil and PhD students.
- Must have a strong record of securing research funding and industry collaboration is desirable
- Conduct automation and control in food manufacturing.
Qualification & Experience
- Doctoral degree in Food Engineering, Food Technology, or a closely related field from a recognized institution is required.
- Proven experience in strong academic and research background.
- Proven record of scholarly publications and teaching experience at the university level.
- Proficiency in the following areas would be an advantage: unit operations in food processing, thermal and non-thermal processing technologies, food plant design, process modeling and simulation, food packaging systems
- Experience with pilot-scale equipment and industrial-scale process development is highly desirable
- Familiarity with distance learning and learning management systems (e.g., Moodle or Google Classroom) will be an added advantage.

Professor
- Base Salary Range: PGK95,366 – PGK 116,558 per annum (Citizen & non-Citizen)
- IMA Range: PGK105,320 – PGK162,617 (International Market Allowance)
- DMA Range: PGK43,069 – PGK74,653 (Domestic Market Allowance)
Associate Professor
- Base Salary Range: PGK78,441 – PGK95,873 per annum (Citizen & non-Citizen)
- IMA Range: PGK96,481 – PGK123,870 (International Market Allowance)
- DMA Range: PGK 31,296 – PGK55,272 (Domestic Market Allowance)
Senior Lecturer
- Base Salary Range: PGK66,060 – K80,740 per annum (Citizen & non-Citizen)
- IMA Range: PGK88,058 – PGK107,159 (International Market Allowance)
- DMA Range: PGK22,683 – PGK40,199 (Domestic Market Allowance)
