STUDENTS SUPPORT & FACILITIES
Dean of Student Services
Reporting to the Deputy Registrar of Students Support & Facilities Center(SS&FC), the Dean of Students plans and directs university activities related to student services and campus life. As an administrator, the dean of students helps coordinate admissions, health services, financial aid, housing, mess facilities and social programs for students
Primary Responsibilities
- To facilitate, and initiate where appropriate, liaison between the SRC, the Union, Professional Associations, Student Counselors, Medical Services and related facilities for students.
- To direct the activities of Sub-Wardens for students residence.
- To ensure that student residences are not occupied by unauthorised persons.
- To ensure that all necessary maintenance and cleaning of students’ accommodation is speedily effected and facilities provided.
- To keep adequate current records of the location of students, the equipment, and facilities provided for students.
- To foster a harmonious and secure environment for the students and staff by ensuring the requirements set down for students conduct are adhered to and undertaking the prosecution of any breaches in these requirements.
- To maintain the confidence of students in the arrangements for a secure environment by eliminating causes and conditions of indiscipline.
- To assist in arrangements for the enrichment of quality of life for students.
- To attend, by invitation, such Committee meetings as may be required.
- To prepare reports on matters connected with students affairs, conditions and conduct as required and is the Executive Officer to the Student Disciplinary Committee.
- To provide updated reports of all USDC cases to the DR-SS&F and other relevant authorities on a timely basis.
- To attend to other duties as required by Deputy Registrar (SS&FC) and Pro VC (Admin.).
RESPONSIBILITY: Immediately responsible to the Deputy Registrar (SS&FC)
Qualification & Experience
- Qualifications:
- The candidate will be required to have completed a University degree of Professional qualification preferably in Social work, Psychology or Communication for Development.
- Work Experience:
- Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience and a minimum of 3 to 5 years of which should be within a University or similar educational Institution.
- Personal Qualities:
- A candidate should possess the initiative, ability and knowledge of student welfare and attitudes.
Other Requirements
- Age range from 35 – 45 years preferred
- Matured and able to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Prepared to work after hours
- Flexible and adaptable approach to problems
- Male/Female
- Empathy for students’ problems
- Must be of sober habits
Conditions of Service
Assistant Registrar I: K35,751 – K43,695 per annum
Assistant Registrar II: K40,781 – K 49,843 per annum
DMA – K1,800 per annum (Domestic Market Allowance)
(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
