School of Mathematics and Computer Science

The School of Mathematics and Computer Science is one of the leading academic Schools of the PNG University of Technology, offering undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in Mathematics and Computer Science. The postgraduate programs also include Ph.D. and M. Phil in the two strands of the school. Both Ph.D and M.Phil are offered on campus. The undergraduate programs are Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics. The school also offers Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics through the distance learning mode.

The school publishes in refereed journals, research reports, and annual reports.

Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer in Computer Science (Theoretical Computer Science / Discrete Logic)

Primary Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach assigned undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the relevant discipline.
  • Contribute actively to the school’s research activities and scholarly programs.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, review and improvement.
  • Contribute to distance learning programmes and other teaching initiatives of the school.
  • Participate actively in School and University academic activities and initiatives.
  • Supervise and support undergraduate and postgraduate students as appropriate to the appointment.
  • Undertake academic, administrative and other duties assigned by the school.

Qualification & Experience

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D in Computer Science from a recognized university.
  • Specialization or demonstrated academic expertise in Theoretical Computer Science and/or Discrete Logic.
  • Academic qualifications and experience commensurate with appointment at Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer level.

EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated university-level teaching experience in Computer Science.
  • Demonstrated research experience in Theoretical Computer Science, Discrete Logic, or a closely related area.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity and research output appropriate to the proposed academic rank.
  • Experience contributing to curriculum development and academic programs.
  • Experience teaching and/or supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students.

KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Strong knowledge of Theoretical Computer Science and Discrete Logic.
  • Strong analytical, logical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to teach relevant undergraduate and postgraduate courses effectively.
  • Ability to conduct independent research and contribute to collaborative research.
  • Ability to contribute to distance learning programs and School initiatives.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary academic team.

Conditions of Service

Associate Professor 

  • Base Salary Range: PGK78,441 – PGK95,873 per annum
  • IMA Range: PGK96,481 – PGK123,870 per annum (International Market Allowance)
  • DMA Range: PGK 31,296 – PGK55,272 per annum (Domestic Market Allowance)

Senior Lecturer

  • Base Salary Range: PGK66,060 – K80,740 per annum
  • IMA Range: PGK88,058 – PGK107,159 per annum (International Market Allowance)
  • DMA Range: PGK22,683 – PGK40,199 per annum (Domestic Market Allowance)
