MASTER OF SCIENCE IN REMOTE SENSING AND GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM
The PNG University of Technology, Lae, through the School of Surveying and Land Studies and the Department of Open and Distance Learning is pleased to announce the admission of students for 2026 in the ‘Master of Science in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (M. Sc in RS & GIS)’ to be offered by DISTANCE MODE.
Objective
The programme aims to create the human resources that will be adept in optimal management and development of natural resources by the state-of-the-art space technology. In a nutshell, this programme will churn out qualified professionals who, using space technology, will be instrumental in developing, managing, exploiting all sorts of natural and man-made resources in a sustainable manner in order to realize the country’s mid-term and long-term development aspirations.
The discipline aims at integrating the emerging state-of-art technologies of space-borne and air-borne data acquisition - remote sensing and digital photogrammetry, digital cartography and mapping, geographic information systems, Global Positioning System (GPS), and information technology, thereby creating specialists in optimal resources management.
Entry Requirements
Bachelor’s DEGREE in any SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING discipline from a recognized university.
Duration of the Course: Two (2) Years
Course Scheduling
The ‘Master of Science in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (M. Sc in RS & GIS)’ programme in DISTANCE MODE shall have four semesters. The session shall start in November and end in November of the following year. The on-campus residential component is compulsory and must be attended by all students. The study modules, lectures, examinations, etc. shall be conducted exclusively by the school of Surveying and Land Studies. The school is in possession of all the material, space, and human resources, etc. for the programme.

Acceptance of candidature (intimation by email) by 29th July, 2026
Payment of 1st Installment: on and before 11th September, 2026
This year residential session will start on 02nd November, 2026
