Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following position within the University:

PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER

Reporting directly to the Director Public Relations, the incumbent is expected to assist in organizing and overseeing Public Relations activities and ensure effective internal and external communications with stakeholders, media, and the public.

His or her primary function is to gather stories/news, photographs, audio and video footage covering various university events and programs for contribution to the publication of the University’s Newsletter, The Reporter, and other university publications. These materials can also be used for dissemination to both print and electronic media and the university’s digital platforms.

Primary Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  1. Media Coverage and Relations
    1. Assist develop PR campaigns and media relations strategies
    2. Writing, editing and publishing news release, newsletter about the university events
  2. Internal Communication
    1. Collaborate with internal teams (e.g. Academic & Administrative Departments) and maintain open communication with immediate supervisor and senior management
  3. Multimedia Production
    1. Edit and update promotional materials, notices and publications (brochures, videos, social media posts etc.)
    2. Prepare the design layout and other graphics required 
    3. Prepare and distribute press releases
  4. Events Promotion and Engagement
    1. Assist organize university sanctioned events (e.g. open days, press conferences, etc)
  5. Stakeholder Collaborations and Engagement
    1. Seek opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and advertising
    2. Address inquiries from the media and other parties
    3. To assist in ensuring that important visitors (partners) of the university are accorded proper reception & protocol.
    4. To assist in promoting the Papua New Guinea University of Technology Alumni Office.
  6. Communication and Risk Mitigation
    1. To ensure that information that goes out in the mass, social media and the public about the university is fair and vetted by the Director Public Relations and the Vice Chancellor and approved for release.

Qualification & Experience

  • The candidate will be required to have completed a university degree of Professional qualification in Journalism/Media & Communications. 
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and a minimum of 2 years in a similar environment.

Personal Qualities

  • The candidate should have a creative mind and excellent communication skills. 
  • Must be confident in public speaking and have project management abilities.
  • He/She should possess initiative, creativity, leadership skills, ability and knowledge of public relations and media/communication activities.

Note: This position requires someone who can work long hours and sometimes weekends as well as when required. 

Conditions of Service

  • Base Salary: Admin Officer I / II – PGK 31,288 to PGK 43,695 per annum

(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
