FACULTY OF HUMANITIES
The Faculty of Humanities at PNGUoT comprises the School of Business Studies and the School of Communication and Development Studies.
The Dean will provide strategic leadership, academic direction, budgetary and administrative oversight, and foster multidisciplinary partnerships to achieve the highest standards in education, research, innovation, and community engagement. Reporting to the Pro Vice Chancellor Academic, the Dean will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the faculty and ensuring international benchmarking/accreditation of all programs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Providing strategic leadership and oversight, ensuring the faculty aligns with the institution’s mission and vision.
- Provide transparent, visible, and consultative leadership to the faculty, guiding the development and execution of business plans that drive excellence in research, education, knowledge exchange, and enterprise, while ensuring the achievement of established performance targets.
- Driving academic excellence, faculty development, and student success across all programs.
- Developing and implementing strategies to foster innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community engagement.
- Overseeing academic programs, curricula, and assessment processes to maintain relevance, rigor, and accreditation compliance.
- Managing the faculty budget, resources, and operations to ensure long-term growth and sustainability.
- Engaging in fundraising, alumni relations, and partnerships to secure resources and support key initiatives.
- Promoting inclusiveness, diversity, and equity culture, ensuring all voices are valued.
- Representing the faculty within the university and to external stakeholders, advocating for its programs and initiatives.
- Liaise with industries/agencies/Government Departments to secure student Professional Work Experience (PWE) placements.
Qualification & Experience
What We Are Looking For
- Qualifications: A Doctoral degree in a discipline within the Faculty of Humanities from a recognized university.
- Experience: Minimum 15 years in a similar leadership role with a distinguished academic or industry track record, currently holding a minimum of an Associate Professor position.
- Skills & Attributes:
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ability in strategic planning.
- Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
- Expertise in research techniques and policy formulation.
- Proven capability in resource management and funding acquisition.

Conditions of Service
- Base Salary Range: Professor PGK95,366 – PGK116,558 per annum
- Base Domestic Market Allowance Range: PGK43,069 – PGK74,653 per annum
(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
