The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (Unitech) invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced professionals for the position of Laboratory Manager – School of Civil Engineering.

Primary Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Head of School – Civil Engineering, the Laboratory Manager will play a crucial leadership role in maintaining, modernizing, and managing the department’s laboratories and machine shops. The role demands a hands-on, innovative, and results-driven individual who can uphold high safety standards, manage resources efficiently, and support academic and student-led research and project work.

Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and modernization of laboratory equipment, tools, and facilities
    • Manage laboratory resources, supplies, and budgets efficiently
    • Supervise and mentor technical staff, ensuring prioritization of tasks and continuous improvement
    • Support academic staff and students in laboratory work, research activities, and student projects
    • Implement and monitor safety policies and ensure compliance with University and national OHS regulations
    • Prepare laboratory budgets and assist the HoS with staff recruitment and training
    • Evaluate student projects and provide feedback to students and academic staff
    • Review and approve laboratory protocols and written reports

Qualification & Experience

    • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
    • At least six (6) years of relevant experience in laboratory management or a similar technical role
    • Experience in supervising technical staff and managing engineering laboratory facilities
    • Knowledge of relevant standards, safety regulations, and project management tools

Conditions of Service

  • Base Salary: K60, 649.00 – K74, 126.00 per annum
  • Domestic Market Allowance: K10,683.00 – K16,026.00 per annum

(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
